Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking a Lead Nurse for Children & Young People with complex respiratory needs to lead the Surrey Children’s Community Nursing Service. You will provide expert clinical leadership, develop services, and support families across home, school and community settings.

The role requires extensive paediatric respiratory expertise, CPD commitment and the ability to drive service improvements and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Are you an experienced Children's Nurse with expertise in complex respiratory care and a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people?

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Lead Nurse to join our Children's Community Nursing Service, leading the delivery of specialist care for children and young people with complex respiratory needs across Surrey.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with leadership, service development and partnership working. You'll act as the lead practitioner for the service, supporting children and families across home, school and community settings while providing expert guidance to colleagues, partners and stakeholders. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll help shape and develop services that enable children to live safely, independently and confidently within their communities.

As aLead Nurse, you'll support and develop nursing colleagues, drive quality improvement initiatives and ensure the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based care for children with complex and long-term health needs

Main Responsibilities

As Lead Nurse, you will provide expert clinical leadership for children and young people with complex respiratory needs, including those requiring long-term ventilation, tracheostomy care and highly specialised respiratory support. You'll assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, ensuring children and families receive coordinated, person-centred support across health, education and social care settings

You will lead and support a team of nurses, providing professional and clinical supervision, workforce planning, recruitment, development and performance management. Working collaboratively with community, acute and tertiary services, you'll coordinate care pathways, champion best practice and ensure safe, effective service delivery that meets the needs of children and their families.

You'll also play a key role in service improvement, quality initiatives and workforce education, developing and delivering competency-based training for carers, nurses and other professionals involved in children's care

• Acting as the clinical lead for children and young peoplewith complex respiratory needs.
• Providing specialist assessment, care planning and clinical oversight
• Leading, supporting and developing Band 6 nurses within the service.
• Coordinating integrated care pathways across health, education and social care partners.
• Delivering clinical training, education and competency assessments.
• Supporting service development, quality improvement and innovation initiatives
• Working collaboratively with community, acute and tertiary care teams.
• Participating in the specialist clinical on-call rota as required.

Ideal Candidate

• Registered Children's Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Significant experience supporting children, young people or adults with complex health needs.
• Highly specialist knowledge of paediatric respiratory care, including long-term ventilation, tracheostomy care, airway clearance and emergency management.
• Experience working across a range of paediatric settings.
• Experience leading service development, quality improvement or change initiatives.
• Experience working collaboratively across multiple agencies and professional groups.
• Ability to work autonomously and make complex clinical decisions.
• Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
• Competent in the use of clinical and business IT systems.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
• Experience managing and developing nursing teams.
• Experience delivering clinical education and competency-based training programmes.
• Experience writing policies, pathways or clinical protocols.
• Experience influencing service delivery across organisational boundaries.
• Knowledge of change management and workforce development principles
