Overview
The Practice Development (PD) Team plays a central role in enhancing the quality of the clinical learning environment within maternity services. The post holder will manager the Maternity PD Team, strategically deliver education programmes, and promote a culture of high-quality professional development for staff and learners.
Responsibilities
- Benchmark learning and development against CQC standards, MIS criteria, NMC conduct and local guidance.
- Plan and schedule education programmes in partnership with the Director of Midwifery.
- Lead inter‑professional learning, develop and nurture multidisciplinary education programmes encouraging lifelong learning.
- Coordinate training for newly qualified and newly appointed midwives and maternity support workers.
- Deliver women‑centred, evidence‑based care and chair the MPEF (Maternity Practice Education Forum).
- Strategically manage the Practice Development Team comprising Band 7 PD Midwives, Recruitment and Retention, Fetal Wellbeing Midwives, Professional Midwifery Advocates and Wellbeing Midwives, Adult Learner Midwives and Internationally Educated Midwife Lead Midwives.
- Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality and Caldicott principles and promote interdisciplinary working.
Required qualifications
- Registered Midwife with relevant experience.
- Teaching qualification or mentor course.
- Masters level education or equivalent experience in a relevant subject.
Desirable qualifications
- Evidence of publications and research.
- Accredited management and leadership development and training.
- Experience of public speaking and proven leadership ability.
- Experience of service change and redesign and experience of implementing strategy.
- Considerable leadership experience within health/social care settings.
- Evidence of innovative practice involving research or audit.
- Evidence of teaching in both clinical and university settings.
- Operational management experience, project management and ability to deliver against tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, networking across organisations and influence.
- Able to demonstrate a broad but in‑depth knowledge of health policy in relation to midwifery practice.
- UK professional registration required.
