Supported Self Help is a guided self-help programme developed by Mind, designed to meet the needs of people who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems. The role will involve working from various community venues within Derbyshire and Derby City, delivering the Supported Self-Help programme, working proactively with individuals to support them via a facilitated self-help approach.

Main duties of the job

The role focuses on direct client work, offering guided self-help support to individuals experiencing early signs of mental health distress, such as anxiety, depression, stress, or bereavement. The successful candidate will manage a caseload, guide clients through structured support programmes, and ensure appropriate signposting to external resources where needed. They'll also collect and analyse data to monitor service delivery and outcomes, contributing to service development through user feedback and operational insight.

The Lead Mental Health Practitioner role also provides line management support for a Mental Health Practitioner, providing direction, assigning caseloads, supporting with safeguarding issues, and ensuring effective case management in collaboration with the Services Lead.

  • To accurately and efficiently manage all administration processes associated with the delivery of the Supported Self-Help Service.
  • To play an integral part in delivering an effective service to meet set targets, with support from the Services Lead.
  • To establish positive client engagement and input, as well as being involved in promoting general aspects of wellbeing.
  • To monitor service delivery, producing reports and collecting and recording data as required.
  • To be responsible for a caseload of Supported Self-Help clients.
  • To work with people to overcome early signs of mental health distress such as anxiety, depression, stress, and bereavement.
  • To follow a set programme, providing support via a facilitated self-help model, including signposting individuals to further support where required.
  • To provide feedback on the performance of the service, and any comments from service users, alongside any suggestions for alternate delivery options.
  • To provide line management support for the Mental Health Practitioner, including guidance/advice, with support from the Services Lead where needed.
  • To assign a caseload for the Mental Health Practitioner, and ensure their caseload is managed effectively, with support from the Services Lead.
  • To provide support and guidance to the Mental Health Practitioner regarding client risk and any safeguarding concerns, with close support from the Services Lead.
  • To seek opportunities to promote and publicise the service within agreed locations and communities.
  • To support with trialling different approaches to service delivery, in a variety of locations, whilst ensuring the quality of the service is not compromised.
  • To build and maintain positive relationships with key partners, including referrers, community venues, local support services, other VCSE organisations, and local communities.
  • To keep abreast of treatments, therapies, policy, legislation, and local services relating to the Supported Self-Help service and mental wellbeing.
  • To ensure that the Supported Self-Help service is delivered in line with operational policies and procedures, including in relation to safeguarding, equal opportunities and health and safety.
  • To capture and record all required data on individuals being supported, in an accurate, timely manner. Ensuring all referrals go through the appropriate system and to manage the CMS (Charity Log) processes efficiently to draw down referrals.
  • To ensure service delivery meets organisational values and standards and is compliant with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR).
  • To attend programme workshops and meetings, contributing to the learning and development of the programme.
  • To carry out any other tasks as reasonably requested by the Services Lead or other managers of Derbyshire Mind, as may be required from time to time, within the context of the Supported Self-Help Service.

Personal Development

  • To undergo any training relevant to the role either internally or externally, most importantly the supported self-help training provided by national Mind.
  • To actively participate in regular supervision sessions and team meetings.
  • To participate in Personal Development plans and to undertake training and development as identified within these discussions.

General

  • To always maintain a professional and confidential approach to work.
  • To work in line with Derbyshire Mind policies, procedures, codes, and guidance, including in relation to health and safety, confidentiality, safeguarding, data protection and equal opportunities.

  • Experience of providing mental health/wellbeing services to clients.
  • Knowledge of common mental health presentations and of the issues relating to supporting people with a range of mental health and emotional wellbeing issues.
  • Experience of managing staff or volunteers.
  • Experience of using a range of computer software packages and programmes, including Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Experience of using communication systems including email, internet, databases, and social media networks.
  • A good knowledge of safeguarding considerations, risk assessments and health and safety.
