Job summary

Xylem is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to lead the mechanical design and delivery of bespoke water treatment projects in Warrington. You will own design deliverables, coordinate across engineering, project management, manufacturing and commercial teams, and collaborate with our Global Capability Center in India to scale UK work.

You’ll review specifications, develop CAD models, generate BOMs and ensure compliance with applicable standards.

Qualifications

• A mechanical engineering/design qualification at HND, degree level or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical design and problem-solving capability.
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD.
• Experience interpreting technical specifications, engineering information and drawings.
• Good understanding of manufacturing and production methods.
• Excellent attention to detail and an organised approach to planning and prioritisation.
• Strong communication, presentation and technical reporting skills.
• Ability to coordinate engineering resources across multiple project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of mechanical design and engineering support across customer projects.
• Review customer specifications, industry standards and national regulations to ensure designs are compliant.
• Produce and coordinate detailed mechanical designs, engineering calculations, manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials and project documentation.
• Develop P&IDs, layouts and detailed manufacturing drawings using 2D and 3D CAD.
• Work with colleagues to resolve design issues arising during manufacture, installation, commissioning and operation.
• Apply good engineering practice to eliminate hazards and mitigate design risks, including responsibilities under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
• Prepare control philosophies, functional design specifications and equipment specification sheets.
• Own and support the UK Treatment team's CAD systems, processes, drawing standards and Vault system.
• Collaborate with project management, production, sales, procurement, QA, customers and suppliers.
• Attend customer and contract meetings and undertake site surveys and equipment inspections when required.
• Support projects requiring UK and international travel.
