Qualifications

EQUANS is looking for a Lead Mechanical Fitter/Engineer to work on our Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital contract. This role would be a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

Role Overview:

  • Undertake maintenance, repairs, and inspections of mechanical building services, in compliance with standards and legislation.
  • Represent the company professionally and respectfully.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical systems and associated services.
  • Respond promptly to breakdown requests.
  • Assist with installation, upgrading, and adaptation works.
  • Conduct fault finding on malfunctioning equipment.
  • Follow safe working practices and operate access equipment and tools safely.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Work flexibly with colleagues and assist in training as needed.
  • Participate in callout/standby rota after qualifying period.
  • Liaise with wards and departments to minimize disruption.
  • Perform risk assessments and collaborate with team members to deliver quality service.
  • Use initiative for decision-making, including out-of-hours work.
  • Complete job documentation diligently and within timeframes.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Additional Skills:

  • Technical expertise with steam boilers and water systems.
  • Problem-solving skills for water and heating issues.
  • Experience with lifecycle planning and meetings.

Impact:

The maintenance engineer ensures statutory and contractual obligations are met through planned and reactive maintenance, supporting the effective operation of healthcare estate and extending equipment lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in maintenance environments.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Services or equivalent.
  • Experience with AHUs, FCUs, LTHW, pumps, pipework, valves, chilled and portable water systems, and water hygiene systems.
  • Pipe fitting experience (desirable).
  • Experience with PPM & reactive work.
  • Authorized Person Mechanical Systems.
  • Experience with steam systems (desirable).
  • Plumbing system experience.
