Job summary

Thales UK is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lead for the Under Water Systems programme. The role collaborates with hardware architects and project management to drive mechanical design across the subsea portfolio.

You will mentor others, coordinate architecture integration, and support build improvements in a security-cleared environment. This role requires a strong track record in mechanical design for defence or maritime platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong demonstrated experience of Mechanical Design Roles including a subset of the listed items.
• Proficient in CREO & PDMLink.
• Understanding of DEF STAN, ISO standards.
• Experience packaging electronics and cabling.
• Designing for ship/submarine platform installation.
• Designing lifting equipment.
• Producing key manufacturing drawings from models.
• Producing detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
• Support in design requirements preparation.
• Using configuration management tooling for tasks.
• Proficient in 3D CAD systems.
• Understanding manufacturing techniques and problem solving in an industry team.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for the UWS project and guide the mechanical team.
• Support PDA and PLA in technical capacity for builds and improvements.
• Assist industry teams to resolve problems.
• Develop mechanical elements and future product capability for UWS.
• Coordinate product definition and assess trade-offs between cost, requirements and tech possibilities.
• Facilitate alignment between product and mechanical architectures within UWS.
• Mentor and develop team members.
• Perform general engineering tasks as needed.
• Carry out specialised mechanical design for subsea environment.
• Provide trials and integration support.
• Monitor technological developments.
