Lead Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear

Lead Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear Sector Location: United Kingdom | Hybrid | Permanent
A well-established international engineering and services organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead high-impact projects within the nuclear sector. This role offers the opportunity to influence the future of energy and infrastructure through technical leadership and innovation.
Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the mechanical engineering scope across complex nuclear-focused projects, from feasibility to commissioning
  • Provide strategic technical leadership to internal teams and external partners
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to nuclear industry standards, including safety, regulatory compliance, and quality control
  • Guide the preparation and review of technical documentation, specifications, and design deliverables
  • Collaborate with clients, design teams, and subcontractors to drive project delivery and engineering excellence
  • Promote continuous improvement and best practice within design and execution phases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s )
  • Chartered Engineer status or on the pathway towards chartership
  • Extensive experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sectors (e.g. defence, petrochemical, energy)
  • Demonstrable background in leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects
  • Strong knowledge of UK nuclear legislation, safety case development, and engineering design codes
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
