Job description

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer

Location: Aldermaston area

Role and Responsibilities:

1. Manage discipline engineers and subcontractors, including planning, estimating, scheduling, and progress reporting.
2. Oversee research, development, design, construction, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and components.
3. Lead design, analysis, and review tasks independently, ensuring complete and compliant designs.
4. Supervise a team of engineers, responsible for project costs, schedules, and performance.
5. Train engineers on technical issues as needed.
6. Coordinate with other disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
7. Develop and maintain technical documentation and specifications.
8. Interface with customers and stakeholders from quotation to final testing and reviews.
9. Conduct site visits, analyze problems, propose solutions, and provide recommendations.
10. Ensure compliance with documentation standards and procedures.
11. Prepare technical papers and support technical proposals.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered Mechanical Engineer status.
• Proven leadership experience in design teams.
• Experience with mechanical handling and equipment.
• Experience with nuclear glovebox design, modification, and decommissioning is advantageous.
• Knowledge of safety case justification, building regulations, and CDM regulations.
• Oversight of gloveboxes, mechanical handling, and interlocks.
• Eligible for UK SC security clearance.
