Job summary

WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, invites applications for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Technical & Design team in Glasgow. The role offers hybrid working and the chance to lead mechanical design across water/wastewater projects.

Based in Govan, you will own packages from concept to construction support, guiding multidisciplinary teams and ensuring safe, buildable solutions aligned with WIMES, CDM 2015 and standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in mechanical design within water, wastewater, utilities, process, industrial or comparable engineering environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of pumps, pipework, valves and mechanical process equipment.
• Experience leading or coordinating mechanical design packages and reviewing technical outputs.
• Good understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination, constructability and design risk.
• Knowledge of relevant UK engineering standards and CDM 2015.
• A Mechanical Engineering degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification supported by relevant experience.
• Strong communication, technical judgement and problem-solving skills.
• Experience of WIMES, DSEAR, pumping station design, hydraulic calculations, surge analysis, BIM/3D modelling, DfMA or modular engineering would be advantageous.
• Previous experience within the water or wastewater sector would be beneficial, particularly within Scottish Water, United Utilities, Southern Water or another UK water framework.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate mechanical design packages from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Develop practical engineering solutions across pumps, pipework, valves, process equipment and associated systems.
• Produce, review and approve design deliverables including P&IDs, general arrangements, schedules, specifications and WIMES documentation.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with Civil, Process, Electrical, ICA and Construction teams.
• Undertake and support site surveys, client meetings and technical reviews.
• Provide technical guidance and support to Mechanical Designers and Engineers across project teams.
• Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, technical authority reviews and client workshops.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, CDM 2015, DSEAR and WIMES requirements.
• Support construction teams with technical queries and design-related problem solving.
• Contribute to DfMA, standardisation, modularisation, carbon reduction and continuous improvement across the Technical & Design function.

WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, is looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Technical & Design team on a permanent, full-time basis. Based in Govan, Glasgow, this role will benefit from hybrid working and offers the opportunity to lead mechanical design delivery across multidisciplinary water and wastewater projects.

You will take ownership of mechanical design packages from concept and optioneering through detailed design and construction support, providing technical guidance to others and working closely with Civil, Process, Electrical, ICA, Project and Construction teams to develop safe, efficient and buildable solutions.

Please note we will be relocating to Stepps within 6 months.

What you’ll bring
