Job summary

Emtec Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead our in-house Design & Digital Engineering Team across Scotland and the North of England. You’ll coordinate internal and external design streams, ensure technical compliance, and support bids with design input and risk reviews.

Ideal candidates have a strong mechanical building services background, with experience guiding design across medium to large MEP projects and a drive to develop others within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design within an MEP contractor, building services consultancy or similar environment.
• Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services would be beneficial.
• Experience reviewing and developing designs and supporting calculations.
• Confidence working with drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Good commercial awareness; understanding of risk and value management.
• Collaborative approach; able to work with different teams and stakeholders.
• Interest in supporting and developing others.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate internal and external design teams.
• Review mechanical and wider MEP design information for compliance and practicality.
• Support bids with design input, costing and risk/opportunity reviews.
• Manage external design partners and keep activity on track.
• Prepare consultant appointments in line with standards; support design programmes.
• Ensure CDM 2015 compliance in design activity.
• Lead design workshops with project, commercial and operational teams.
• Review drawings; raise RFIs and TQs where required.
• Identify design risks, opportunities and value-engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with Digital Engineering on construction information.
