Lead Manufacturing Engineering (Composites)

Location: Gloucestershire

Type: Permanent position

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading aerospace engineering company as a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, focusing on the development of aerospace components made from composites.

As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you should have a strong understanding of composite materials and their properties, along with a solid manufacturing background, including process development and manufacturability improvements.

You should demonstrate significant experience with composite materials, with expertise in carbon composites being highly desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Author and approve manufacturing processes and specifications.
  • Lead projects related to carbon composite and resin transfer molding processes (team of 3).
  • Provide leadership, support, and motivation to a small but growing team of manufacturing engineers.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities across manufacturing processes.
  • Develop production techniques from raw materials to finished products.
  • Review and approve manufacturing work instructions.
  • Train and support manufacturing operatives, especially during SOP updates.
  • Establish control plans and data collection methods for monitoring critical process variables.
  • Sign off on business procedures and documentation.
  • Contribute to improvements in manufacturing metrics such as throughput, yield, cycle time, and defect rates.
Candidate Background
  • Strong experience in carbon composite manufacturing, resin transfer molding, and NDT techniques.
  • BSc/MSc/HND or Level 6 equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Understanding of engineering statistics.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency with CAD software.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing from CAD models and part production.
