Job summary

Unite Group is seeking a Lead Maintenance Operative for our student accommodation brands Unite Students and Hello Student. You will perform hands-on maintenance, coordinate daily maintenance activities, and lead the team when required to keep buildings safe, compliant and well maintained.

You will work closely with the Maintenance Manager and cross-functional teams, delivering high-quality repairs, health and safety checks, and proactive upkeep across communal areas.

Qualifications

• Experience in a maintenance, facilities or property maintenance role.
• Able to deliver reactive repairs and planned maintenance tasks.
• Good understanding of health and safety and safe working practices.
• Able to diagnose and resolve general building maintenance issues.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work in a team and independently.
• Good communication and customer-focused approach.
• Technical knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC or general building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on reactive and planned maintenance tasks to high standards.
• Coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities and manage workload and priorities.
• Maintain safe and compliant buildings and support health and safety checks.
• Lead when required, guiding colleagues and ensuring continuity in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
• Monitor property standards and carry out low-level repairs and general upkeep in communal areas.
• Log and track maintenance, safety and operational issues in internal systems.
• Liaise with contractors and suppliers to support maintenance works.
• Support stock control and ensure proper use of materials, tools and PPE.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies with first-line support.
• Contribute to a positive resident experience by resolving issues promptly and professionally.
