Job Description

Zenith People are working with our client who are a Manufacturer based in County Durham and are looking to recruit a Lead Engineer to support a team of 4 to 6 Maintenance Technicians on Shift. We are looking for candidates with proven leadership, management, and team leading experience and a full Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering ideally.

Duties:
  1. Carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance on plant equipment in a High-Volume Manufacturing environment.
  2. Drive continuous improvement and support production to meet operational targets.
  3. Supervise, motivate and lead a team of Maintenance Engineers on shift.
  4. Delegate daily tasks and ensure clear communication of priorities.
  5. Provide technical support and guidance to the team during fault-finding and repairs.
  6. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability and safety.
  7. Perform hands-on engineering maintenance tasks, including reactive (firefighting) and planning preventative maintenance.
  8. Minimise downtime by swiftly addressing breakdowns and troubleshooting equipment issues.
  9. Coordinate and execute maintenance schedules, ensuring timely completion.
  10. Liaise with production teams to minimise disruption during maintenance activities.
  11. Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify potential issues.
  12. Support projects aimed at increasing equipment reliability and efficiency.
  13. Provide feedback to the Engineering Management Team regarding recurring issues and areas for improvement.
  14. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in the CMMS (e.g. job logs, actions, time and maintenance schedules).
  15. Report shift performance, downtime causes and key findings to the Engineering Manager.
Skills & Qualifications:
  1. Time served mechanical/electrical engineer (HNC/HND or equivalent).
  2. Proficient troubleshooting and repairing complex machines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (sensors, conveyors, chains, PLC, Servos, HMI, risk assessments).
