Job description

OUR FIRM

Avantia Law is leading the way in legal services innovation. Our team of talented lawyers, supported by AI, works with clients to deliver routine legal and compliance work quickly and cost-effectively.

We have experienced exceptional growth and success since our inception in 2019.

Our clients are sophisticated, high-caliber investment funds and asset managers. They expect premium service, which we consistently deliver. We have a proven track record of success, often acquiring new clients through referrals.

We foster a culture of trust and flexibility among our employees.

Our office is located in London for those wishing to work onsite part of the time, but we also support fully remote work. We pride ourselves on having a diverse workforce from around the world.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a Lead Lawyer with a client-facing background in Corporate M&A, PE, Finance, Transactional, or Corporate Support to oversee Transaction and Investment Compliance for leading asset managers worldwide.

Our clients include institutional investors and asset managers across private equity, infrastructure, credit, and real estate strategies. You will serve as the primary contact for clients (deal teams and legal) advising on compliance risks related to their transactions and investments.

The role requires familiarity with corporate and private equity deal structures and the ability to quickly identify key risk factors.

We seek innovative deal lawyers experienced in managing clients in the fast-paced financial services industry; prior compliance experience is not necessary.

You will collaborate with our Head of Investment Compliance and an international team of ex-Big Law lawyers, paralegals, and analysts to review deal structures, investigate corporate ownership and funds flow, and identify red flags such as AML, sanctions, and reputational risks.

This role extends beyond compliance and is ideal for a lawyer interested in future leadership, with high client interaction and team management responsibilities. Investment compliance is a rapidly growing sector, and Avantia is establishing itself as a trusted leader, advising key players in asset management. As the company grows, new opportunities will arise, including involvement in LegalTech and new service lines.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Licensed to practice law in the UK or Europe (candidates licensed in similar jurisdictions will also be considered)
  2. 4+ years’ post-qualification experience in Corporate M&A, PE, Finance, Transactional, or Corporate Support law
  3. Experience representing asset management, institutional investors, or other financial services clients
  4. Strong commercial awareness with a solutions-oriented approach and keen attention to detail

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

At Avantia, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We value the unique perspectives and backgrounds of each individual and strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected and empowered. Our hiring process is merit-based, and we welcome applications from all qualified individuals. Please inform our Talent team of any reasonable accommodations needed during the recruitment process or employment, and we will gladly discuss and facilitate adjustments.

  • 25 days holiday plus UK Bank Holidays and 1 day off for your birthday
  • Remote-first policy (anywhere in the UK) or the option to work from our London Bridge office
  • Private healthcare or a budget for wellness activities
  • Annual subscription to Calm or Headspace
  • Early finish Fridays in summer
  • Pension scheme (enhanced after 1 year of service)
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies after 1 year
