Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in London is seeking a hands-on Lead Software Engineer who will spend most of their time writing, reviewing, and shipping production code, not managing from the sidelines.

You will lead by example, set technical standards, mentor engineers, and own end-to-end outcomes from design to production support while advancing secure, scalable payments technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science.
• Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages.
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.
• Skilled in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
• Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile).
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and IT systems.
• Practical cloud native experience.

Responsibilities

• Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting.
• Develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others.
• Identify opportunities to automate remediation of recurring issues and improve operational stability.
• Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs and technical credentials.
• Drive outcomes-oriented probing for applicability within existing systems and information architecture.
• Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote awareness and adoption of new technologies.

This is a hands-on Lead Software Engineer role - you will spend most of your time writing, reviewing, and shipping production code, not managing from the sidelines. We're looking for a senior engineer who leads by example: setting the technical bar through their own commits, lifting the team through pragmatic architecture decisions, and coaching engineers so the whole squad delivers better. You'll own outcomes end-to-end - from design through to production support - while actively growing the people around you. Roughly 70% deep technical execution, 30% technical leadership, mentoring, and direction-setting.
