Job Description: IPT Lead Manufacturing Engineer

Safran Seats in the UK specializes in First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide-body aircraft, with teams based in Cwmbran, Newport, Wales, and Brackley, England.

Role Overview: As the IPT Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will lead a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians to ensure product designs meet manufacturing and assembly requirements. A strong background in new product introduction within a manufacturing environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support design reviews, ensuring issues are communicated, logged, and resolved appropriately.
  2. Drive the team to highlight and eliminate design for assembly/manufacture issues at each project stage; lead lessons learned sessions.
  3. Collaborate with engineering to define development build requirements and oversee build processes and improvements.
  4. Conduct make vs buy analyses, guiding decisions aligned with the company's core competencies, and review strategies with purchasing.
  5. Develop production strategies with operations to meet customer requirements and estimate CAPEX for tooling.
  6. Eliminate waste during design, train teams in lean methodologies.
  7. Ensure timely and quality compilation of APQP & PPAP documentation.
  8. Complete PFMEAS, close actions, and stay updated on aerospace standards for FMEA methodologies.
  9. Work with systems engineering to integrate validation and verification requirements into project plans.
  10. Identify and budget for tool and equipment needs, considering ergonomic and safety requirements.
  11. Plan and achieve industrialization deliverables for key project milestones.
  12. Resolve industrialization and production issues before BOM release.
  13. Perform root cause analysis for issues, organizing necessary teams.
  14. Review and approve engineering drawings considering tolerances' effects on assembly.
  15. Maintain accurate industrialization timing plans, manage resources, and implement mitigation for critical tasks.
  16. Ensure programs adhere to schedules and departmental gate reviews.
Candidate Skills:
  • B.Eng. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering or HND via apprenticeship.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in aerospace or automotive manufacturing.
  • Proven leadership of technical teams.
  • Knowledge of company and regulatory standards.
  • Expertise in design for manufacture and assembly, manufacturing processes, Lean Six Sigma, APQP & PPAP, PFMEA, and CAD software (including CATIA and 3D modeling).
  • Ability to interpret 2D drawings.
