Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Glasgow

Role Details:

The purpose of the role is to lead engineering workstreams on the infrastructure with experience interfacing with electrical, mechanical, and civil disciplines by supporting Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in the planning, oversight, supervision, and assessment of the production of the infrastructure design documentation. This will include planning for and supporting integration with internal project stakeholder groups as well as external customer stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead working groups, meetings, and reviews with both consultants and contractors.
  • Develop, assess, and maintain nuclear infrastructure design substantiation documents.
  • Manage design changes, concessions, and technical justifications for modifications.
  • Present design substantiations to nuclear safety committees.
  • Develop and oversee Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules and procedures.
  • Produce Periodic Reviews of Safety reports.
  • Provide technical advice and direction to stakeholders.
  • Conduct Independent Technical Review (ITA) and Independent Peer Review (IPR).
  • Apply engineering principles to nuclear and high-risk environments.
  • Review contractor reports, safety case submissions, calculations, and technical documents.
Key Requirements:

Essential:
  • Strong knowledge of British & European design standards and working practices.
  • Expertise in High Voltage & Low Voltage electrical systems.
  • Skilled in concept design, detailed design, and construction stages across various electrical engineering projects (ideally including industrial/maritime).
  • Experienced in evaluating electrical plant and equipment to withstand hazards.
  • Proficient in authorising technical justifications and documentation for design modifications in high-hazard industries.
  • Familiar with pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA systems, and related industrial equipment.
  • Proven track record of providing electrical engineering input in complex projects, particularly within defence or maritime sectors.
Desirable:
  • Experience within a high risk environment, such as UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), particularly in the design and assessment safety related structures, systems and components.
  • Familiarity with safety case development techniques.
  • Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulation and practice and application of relevant nuclear specific codes and standards.
Qualifications:

Desirable:
  • Safety case related training or experience.
