Thomson seeks a Senior Hydrologist/Senior Aquatic Ecologist in Manchester to lead our Water Team and deliver complex aquatic projects. You will provide technical leadership, ensure compliance with legislation, and drive business development with clients across the UK.

The role requires strong experience in environmental consultancy, aquatic/hydro-ecology, and proven ability to manage people, budgets and multiple projects while delivering high-quality reports and outputs.

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental consultancy
• Background in aquatic ecology or hydro-ecology
• Track record of winning work and building client relationships
• Knowledge of hydro-ecological survey techniques, legislation and policy
• Experience delivering high-quality reports and assessments
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Ability to manage people, budgets and multiple projects
• Proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Water Team with technical oversight and mentoring
• Deliver large, complex hydro-ecological projects on time and within budget
• Provide guidance on legislation, policy and best practice
• Review and approve technical reports and deliverables
• Oversee budgets, forecasting and team financial performance
• Win new work through bids, tenders and client engagement
• Build and maintain strong client relationships
• Support marketing and PR activity to promote water services
• Expert fieldwork and survey execution for ecological assessments
