Job summary

SLR Consulting is seeking an experienced Hydrologist to lead and shape hydrology projects within the Flood Risk and Water Environment team across the UK. You will oversee assessments, mentor junior staff and contribute to new methodologies while engaging with clients, regulators and stakeholders.

The role offers hybrid/remote working options, requires Chartered status or progression, and involves travel to multiple sites for desk and site-based work.

Qualifications

• Extensive consultancy experience leading hydrological assessments
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or related discipline
• Chartered status, or working towards chartership (CIWEM/ICE)
• Strong experience delivering hydrological assessments for flood risk and hydraulic modelling
• Advanced knowledge of UK hydrological methods and guidance (FEH, ReFH2, WINFAP, LowFlows)
• Experience deriving design flows and hydrological inputs for fluvial modelling
• Experience preparing FRAs and SFRAs
• Good understanding of UK flood risk policy and climate allowances
• Experience liaising with Environment Agency, SEPA, NRW, LLFAs and other stakeholders
• Experience using GIS (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS) with QA skills
• Excellent technical reporting and QA skills
• Experience Culvert Assessment studies using CIRIA guidance
• Experience mentoring junior staff
• Strong project management and client relationship skills
• Willingness to undertake site visits across the UK

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery, review and QA of hydrological assessments for flood risk and water environment projects
• Mentor and support development of junior colleagues
• Develop and improve technical approaches, tools and methodologies
• Prepare fee proposals and contribute to project planning and resource management
• Build and maintain client, regulator and stakeholder relationships
• Support business development across flood risk and water environment services
• Undertake desk-based work with occasional site visits and stakeholder meetings across the UK
