Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a fellowship-trained Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Hip & Knee Arthroplasty to strengthen our expanding Trauma and Orthopaedic department. The post includes 10 PAs and a HVLC elective service using two laminar flow theatres, with leadership in hip/knee arthroplasty and management of complex cases.

You will share on-call duties for adult and paediatric trauma, contribute to elective pathway

Qualifications

• Fellowship-trained arthroplasty surgeon.
• Experience in high-volume hip and knee arthroplasty is required.
• Ability to lead on-call general trauma and work within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Run a high-volume primary hip and knee replacement practice, with efficient pathways and strong outcomes data, including the National Joint Registry.
• Lead the surgical management of periprosthetic fractures, including fixation and revision where needed.
• Provide surgical care for patients with metastatic bone disease and pathological fractures, including reconstruction and arthroplasty, in partnership with the oncology MDT.
• Share general trauma on call, adult and paediatric (1 in 12) and contribute to the hip fracture and arthroplasty trauma service.
• Help develop elective pathways, enhanced recovery and day-case or short-stay arthroplasty.
• Teach and supervise students and doctors in training, and act as named educational supervisor where appropriate.
• Take part in annual job planning, appraisal and revalidation, with support from the New Consultant Development Programme and a named mentor.
