Job summary

Clearfield Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Groundworks Site Manager to lead the day-to-day management of groundworks on a residential development near Maldon. You will drive safe, efficient delivery, manage subcontractors, and ensure works are completed to programme and quality standards.

You will oversee enabling works, drainage, foundations/kerbs, levels and earthworks, coordinating with site teams and monitoring progress against the programme.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years proven experience as a Groundworks Site Manager.
• Demonstrable knowledge of groundworks delivery in residential environments.
• Strong understanding of H&S, RAMS/COSHH, permit-to-work processes.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings/specifications, and ensure correct installation to tolerances.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills with subcontractors and stakeholders.
• Valid CSCS, SMSTS and First Aid essential.
• Referenceable experience managing groundworks packages of similar scope.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate groundworks operations across the development (e.g., enabling works, drainage, foundations/kerbs, levels, earthworks - package scope to be confirmed).
• Ensure works are carried out safely, in full compliance with CDM, site rules, and company H&S procedures.
• Manage and schedule subcontractors and labour, ensuring manpower and plant are available to meet programme.
• Maintain strong quality control (compaction, setting out checks, levels, concrete/pipework standards, reinstatement).
• Monitor progress against programme and report updates, risks, and mitigation actions.
• Coordinate with other site teams (site management, civils, structures, utilities, contractors).
• Support snagging/defects management as required and ensure handover documentation is completed.
