The Role
We are seeking experienced and highly skilled Lead Ground Workers to join our growing team and support both new and existing contracts across Cornwall. In this role, you will lead and supervise a small team of operatives, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Ordering and managing plant and materials required for projects
- Interpreting utility plans, construction drawings, and technical specifications
- Ensuring that all team members follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and adhere to safe working practices
- Completing site records, including work logs, daily progress, and safety checks
- Conducting daily safety briefings and ensuring the team understands and follows safety protocols
- Reporting any accidents, injuries, incidents, near misses, or damage to plant/equipment to management in a timely manner
About You
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following qualities and qualifications:
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices and a commitment to promoting a safe working environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with the team and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to motivate, manage, and support a team, recognizing individual strengths and development needs
- Resilience and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- A valid driving licence, with experience driving vehicles (depending on licence)
- SSSTS qualification (desirable, but not essential)
- Confidence in managing confrontational situations and maintaining professional relationships with the public
- Basic IT skills, including familiarity with tablet-based systems for logging work-related information, timesheets, and email communication
- Strong ability to read and interpret utility and construction plans
- A proactive, problem-solving attitude and a “can-do” mindset
- Experience in completing site records and conducting safety briefings, ensuring compliance with safety standards
- Ability to travel as required to various sites

Working Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, with weekend work where needed, and some night work as required). Overtime available.
