Job summary

Chorley Council and South Ribble Borough Council are seeking a Grounds Maintenance Manager for Chorley’s Streetscene service. You will lead a dedicated team responsible for parks, open spaces, and streets, delivering high standards of service and community pride.

The role requires proven grounds maintenance experience, strong leadership, planning, budget management, and proficient use of MS Office and digital systems.

Qualifications

• Proven grounds maintenance experience in parks, open spaces, or related fields.
• Strong leadership to motivate, support and develop teams.
• Experience planning, organising and prioritising workloads for efficient service delivery.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital systems for monitoring work.
• Commitment to high standards across parks, open spaces, and public realm.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder relationships.
• Proactive in identifying improvements and innovative solutions.
• Solid understanding of health and safety legislation in grounds maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and line-manage operational teams; coordinate activity to maintain high standards.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of all work equipment.
• Maintain health and safety compliance, risk assessments, incident reporting.
• Assist with depot operations and waste/Streetscene fleet management.
• Support emergency planning and on-call rota.
• Contribute to strategic projects via digital systems to improve services.
• Support system improvements and new ways of working, modeling best practice.
• Maintain high levels of customer service across the service.
