Job summary

Mayfleet Recruitment Limited is seeking a Lead Graphic Designer for a large UK government department. Hybrid, based in London or Manchester with one day on site per week and approx. one trip to Bristol monthly; start ASAP.

You will lead brand direction, translate data into engaging visuals, and mentor designers while presenting to senior stakeholders. Collaborate with analytics and policy teams to shape communications across channels with accessible design.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of brand design on large-scale, multi-channel brands.
• Strong portfolio showing brand work and information design or data visualisation.
• Experience leading designers while staying hands on.
• Comfort presenting to senior stakeholders and leading workshops.
• Experience in agile teams working on digital products.
• Understanding of accessible and inclusive design.

Rate: Up to £575 per day, Inside IR35

Contract: 6 months, possible extension
Location: London or Manchester, hybrid with one day a week on site, plus around one trip a month to Bristol

Mayfleet Recruitment is supporting a large government department with a Lead Graphic Designer contract, working on a brand used by millions of people across the UK.

you'll split your time between the departments Brand team, a group of 8 to 10, and its Insights and Analytics team, a multidisciplinary group of 12. You'll set the creative direction for the brand, and turn complex data and statistics into clear, engaging visuals. This is a lead role for someone who still loves doing the work: guiding and mentoring other designers, then picking up a brief and running with it yourself.

What you'll be doing

• Leading brand and graphic design across the organisation, keeping the brand consistent, accessible and inclusive across every channel
• Turning data, statistics and research into infographics, data visualisations and clear communications
• Presenting creative work and recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders
• Running workshops with designers, strategists and policy colleagues
• Working closely with developers, data scientists, analysts and researchers
• Mentoring designers and taking part in a large design community

What we re looking for

• At least 5 years of brand design experience on large-scale, multi-channel brands
• A strong portfolio showing brand work and information design or data visualisation
• Experience leading other designers while staying hands on
• Confidence working with and presenting to senior stakeholders
• Experience in agile teams working on digital products or services
