VDOT seeks a field geotechnical technician to gather subsurface data, locate boring sites, and log soils and rock descriptions for preliminary design and forensic investigations. You will coordinate with utilities and landowners, supervise drilling crews, and provide hands-on training in equipment use and safety.

The role requires reading plans, working in all weather, and maintaining accurate field records and reports for engineers and staff.

Qualifikationen

• CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Materials certifications, flagger, traffic control technician, and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER within 12 months.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
• Knowledge of geology, soils, bedrock and VDOT specifications.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skill in operation and maintenance of mechanical drilling equipment.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
• Skill in geotechnical drilling equipment and related tools.
• Valid driver's license.

Aufgaben

• Gather geotechnical, geophysical and non-destructive subsurface data via drilling for preliminary design and investigations.
• Oversee drilling crew operations and provide technical support to the program area.
• Coordinate with utilities, locators and landowners for approvals before drilling.
• Document boring logs, sample data and groundwater levels; maintain records.
• Instruct and train technicians in equipment use, site analysis and safety.
• Review field work to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
