Job summary

Jersey Evening Post’s technology team seeks a hands-on Full Stack Engineer to build and evolve features across a proprietary platform. You will lead major areas on a new programme, delivering independent features within a mature codebase and collaborating with the Head of Engineering.

You will translate designs into robust backend and frontend code using Rails, MySQL, React, and TypeScript, with an emphasis on tests, maintainability, and scalable architecture, while exploring AI-assisted

Qualifications

• Solid commercial experience with Ruby on Rails and building RESTful APIs.
• Front-end development with React and TypeScript.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL) and data modelling.
• Experience with automated testing and writing tested code.
• Experience integrating third‑party APIs and authentication.
• Familiarity with Git, code review and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Agile delivery and breaking features into increments.
• Exposure to data visualisation libraries is advantageous.
• Interest in AI and data-driven systems; ability to assess value.
• Strong written and verbal communication; collaboration with non-technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship full-stack features from data model to UI screens.
• Take ownership of discrete areas delivering independently within architecture.
• Translate designs into responsive, accessible front-end implementations.
• Break work into deliverable increments and track progress.
• Develop and maintain backend systems, including RESTful APIs, background jobs, and Rails workflow.
• Design and evolve MySQL data models focusing on performance and maintainability.
• Implement robust authorization and access-control logic.
• Build and consume third‑party integrations, including external APIs and CRMs.
• Construct React/TypeScript front-end apps with the design system.
• Implement data visualisations and interactive analytics views.
• Contribute to reporting and document-generation with new outputs.
• Write clear, well-tested code following TDD and tests.
• Participate in code reviews and feedback exchanges.
• Utilise version control for safe, repeatable deployments.
• Collaborate across the business and support AI-assisted capabilities.
• Support new features through launch, responding to user feedback.
