Job summary

Colchester United Football Club seeks an experienced Deputy Head Grounds Person to support the Head Grounds Person in maintaining pitches and grounds across the Club's sites. The role blends hands-on turf care with daily planning and supervision of the grounds team.

You will prepare pitches for First Team and Academy training and matches, manage routine maintenance and renovations, supervise staff, and ensure safety and high standards across all sites.

Qualifications

• Experience in sports turf maintenance with sound knowledge of natural grass pitch care.
• Ability to organize work independently and as part of a team.
• Driving licence and willingness to work evenings, weekends and matchdays.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, inspect and maintain pitches for First Team and Academy training and matches.
• Support routine maintenance, renovations and improvements to playing surfaces.
• Maintain grounds, irrigation and drainage systems, ensuring sites are safe and tidy.
• Assist in organising daily workloads and supervising staff.
• Coordinate pitch availability with football and operational staff; respond to changes.
• Operate and maintain grounds machinery; arrange servicing and transport equipment between sites.
• Follow health and safety procedures and report defects promptly.
