Job description

As the Lead Enterprise Architect, you will be responsible for leading and managing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the enterprise architecture framework. You will provide technical leadership and strategic direction to the IT teams and work closely with business stakeholders to align the enterprise architecture with the organisation's goals and objectives. You will also develop and maintain the architecture roadmap, technology standards, and policies, ensuring that they are in line with industry best practices and comply with relevant regulations and standards. This role is a leadership position in the vast and expanding programme dedicated to the development of ongoing solutions within the Defence Sector.

The programme is delivering an application to digitalise and automate the planning and scheduling of training courses, and the iPad Mobile Device Management project is enabling the transformation of training course content to be digitally enabled and interactive for instructors and trainees. This hands-on role will involve:

  1. Designing and/or updating the design of the enterprise/infrastructure architecture for the Scheduling Optimisation Engine (SOE) Application (including IBM Cplex), and the iPad Mobile Device Management solution, among other applications.
  2. Documenting those designs and ensuring they comply with MOD technical and security standards.
  3. Maintaining contact with MOD security accreditation stakeholders, and ensuring that the applications achieve required approvals as per the delivery plan.
  4. Identifying and ensuring that specialist software license requirements (such as IBM Cplex) are identified, costed, and remain in compliance.
  5. Providing updates to the project manager on progress towards delivery of documentation and approval milestones.

What we're looking for:

  1. Excellent IT Architecture knowledge and experience across software applications including Oracle Apex, Operating systems (Microsoft and Linux), and IT infrastructure especially Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of the MOD IT landscape.
  3. Some knowledge of OCS, AWS, and Azure Cloud services which are the foundation of MODCloud.
  4. The ability to engage with IT and Business people and translate their requirements into practical solutions that benefit the business.
  5. Hands-on support for the practical delivery of secure digital solutions within the secure MOD IT architecture.
  6. Ability to articulate application data types, usage needs, and security classifications, translating those into a secure architectural design.
  7. Must be eligible to undergo SC Clearance.
  8. A willingness to travel to Portsmouth and Plymouth (expenses paid) to engage with users and the IT community.
