Job summary

Kenton School in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking an experienced English leader to drive improved outcomes for students in KS4 and KS5, through modelling exemplary teaching and developing high-quality resources.

The role focuses on data-informed targeted support, staff mentoring, professional development, and curriculum shaping to close gaps and raise achievement across the English department.

Responsibilities

• Improving the outcomes obtained by students in their final examinations with an emphasis on KS4 and KS5 teaching and interventions
• Using assessment data to identify individuals or groups that need targeted support and implementing this across the department
• Measuring and assessing the impact of interventions to raise achievement and the quality of teaching
• Modelling consistently high-quality teaching and producing high-quality teaching materials to support practice
• Providing mentoring/coaching and regular feedback to teachers to improve practice
• Collaborating with the Director and Heads of Department to design staff development programmes
• Delivering CPD to ensure staff develop pedagogy within the English department
• Staying up-to-date with national developments in English teaching practice and pedagogy
• Strategically shaping the KS3 curriculum to close gaps using KS4 outcomes, data, and KS2 QLA as appropriate
