Bank of England is seeking a Lead Engineer (Specialist) to drive the Data Collection and Publication (DCP) Platform within the Technology Directorate. You will shape infrastructure from cloud-native to on‑premise systems, mentor teams, and advance CI/CD practices using Terraform, GitHub Actions and PowerShell.
The role supports flexible working, with a 50% in-office requirement and location options in Leeds or London. Strong documentation, collaboration and security-first mindset are essential.
As a Lead Engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping and supporting the Bank's technology stack - from cloud-native platforms to traditional on-premise systems. You'll collaborate across teams, lead by example, and help drive innovation and resilience in our infrastructure.
You will be contributing your expertise towards the continual improvement of our technology stack, ranging from complex cloud-hosted applications applying IaC and full CI/CD automation, to more traditional VM-based on-premise systems. You'll then dive into hands‑on work‑automating infrastructure deployments using Terraform and GitHub Actions, scripting in PowerShell, or improving CI/CD pipelines. You'll collaborate with engineers across teams, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute to a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
You'll also document your work clearly, showcasing it to team members and ensuring others can understand and support your work. Whether you're deploying a new Azure environment, solving a build, or reviewing a pull request, you'll bring a security‑first mentality and a drive for quality and innovation.
Whilst we are looking for someone with relevant experience, we do not expect new joiners to have skills across our entire technology stack and will support you to fill technical gaps.
This is a Lead Engineering role within the Data Collection Platforms team. The team is responsible for the Bank's strategic data collection platform, as well as several other systems critical to the Bank's mission.
More broadly, this role contributes to the Bank's mission by helping to modernise and secure its technology estate. You'll be part of a team that builds resilient, scalable infrastructure to support critical services across the organisation-ensuring the Bank remains agile, secure, and future‑ready.
