Job Title: Lead Engineer - Protection Asset StrategyLocation: Glasgow or Prenton Remote HybridSalary from £60,800 to £76,000Help us create a better future, quickerTo ensure a reliable and efficient grid that will support the Uks Target of Net Zero, you will define, approve, and monitor asset management strategies and policies, for the Protection Systems of the Transmission and Distribution Network in alignment with SPEN Asset Management objectives.
Providing technical input to the development and continuous improvement of protection assets' risk and performance review methodologies.
Defining Protection investment need cases and strategic long-term plans and support the respective regulatory submissions for Protection systems
What you'll be doing- Define, approve and monitor policies related to application, design and resilience of Protection Systems for the Transmission and Distribution Licences, as well as the definition of Inspection, Maintenance, Defects management and End of Life policies.
- Support the development of asset data models and information systems to ensure they are suitable to monitor the implementation of the asset management policies and in compliance with the NIS Cyber Security regulations.
- Support the development of asset risk and performance methodologies that inform investment strategies, feeding into the Asset Risk methodology.
- Define strategic long-term plans for Protection Systems, developing investment need cases as required and establish effective communication with the Operational teams within the Transmission and Distribution Licences to monitor the delivery of the business plans.
- Lead the review of Protection Faults and Failures, articulating lessons learned and remediation actions in a consistent manner.
- Be at the forefront of the industry innovation for Protection Assets, leveraging the introduction of new technology to improve network performance.
- Support engagement with other industry stakeholders on Protection Systems, representing SPEN in Asset Management group discussions.
- Ensure long term asset stewardship to maximise outperformance opportunity from Regulatory settlement whilst maintaining and improving the current system integrity and NIS compliance.
- Support engagement on behalf of SPEN with key Government and industry stakeholders on the development of Protection Systems' asset management ensuring that SPEN's position is well understood and viewed favourably.
What you'll bring- Degree in relevant engineering discipline.
- Expert knowledge of Protection Systems for electrical networks -including the use of IEC 61850
- Good knowledge of asset management systems and the ISO 55000 framework.
- Good knowledge of the regulatory requirements impacting on SPEN, particularly the NIS regulations.
- Ability to translate strategic thinking and direction into policies and deliverable plans.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with senior managers across SPEN and the wider industry.
- Strong commercial understanding of value and risk inherent in Energy Networks and the ability to understand complex industry mechanisms and identify and drive value enhancing opportunities.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to present technical matters to a non-technical audience.
