Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR Limited is seeking a Lead Engineer for Module Partner Development. Hybrid role with primary offices in Derby, Warrington, or Manchester; you will guide engineering scope, processes and delivery models across complex modular projects.

You will act as a bridge between engineering, programme and operations, ensuring alignment on commissioning, resource planning and design reviews, while driving planning and stakeholder maturity in a growing SMR programme.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; Chartered Engineer status or commitment to pursue registration.

  • Leading collaboration between Rolls-Royce SMR and the Module Partner organisation, aligning responsibilities and ownership across engineering activities.
  • Developing engineering scope, processes and delivery models to support transition into detailed design and deployment phases.
  • Bridging engineering, programme and operations to keep commissioning, resource planning and organisational design aligned.
  • Driving planning, scope development and partnership maturity while supporting technical, commercial and programme decisions across modules.

Lead Engineer - Module Partner Development

The Team

The Reactor Island Layout and Installations team is at the heart of delivering our modular construction strategy. Working across engineering, operations and programme functions, the team is responsible for developing innovative installation and delivery solutions that maximise the benefits of factory-built modules and support the efficient deployment of our SMR fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Leading collaboration between Rolls‑Royce SMR and our Module Partner organisation, aligning responsibilities, interfaces and ownership across a broad range of engineering activities.
  • Developing responsibility matrices, engineering processes and delivery models that support the transition into detailed design and future deployment phases.
  • Acting as a bridge between engineering, programme and operations teams, ensuring cross-functional topics such as commissioning, resource planning and organisational design remain aligned.
  • Driving planning, scope development and partnership maturity activities, whilst supporting technical, commercial and programme decision‑making across the modules programme.
Requirements
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, alongside Chartered Engineer status or a commitment towards professional registration.
  • Experience developing engineering scope, delivery models and stakeholder alignment across complex programmes and organisational boundaries.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, stakeholder management, technical risk management and gated design review processes.
  • Experience developing schedules, managing programme delivery activities and communicating effectively across a wide range of technical and business stakeholders.

Compensation

We anticipate paying a salary of between £60,000-£78,750 DOE.

Pay Range: £60,000.00 - £78,750.00

Working conditions
  • Hybrid and flexible working but will expect regular attendance at one of our offices in Derby, Manchester or Warrington, alongside occasional travel to support workshops and partner engagement activities.
Selection Process

The recruitment process will consist of an introductory discussion with the Talent Acquisition team, followed by interviews with hiring managers and key stakeholders. Due to the safety regulations within the nuclear industry, applicants will be required to participate in additional screening.

  • Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
  • Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check
