Job description

Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer - Inverter HW to be based at our customer's site in Gaydon.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

We are seeking a Project Engineer - Inverter HW to lead the specification and delivery of a 1-off inverter system, collaborating with Aston Martin's strategic inverter supplier. This role will work under the guidance of the Power Conversion Leader and Inverter Expert, ensuring seamless integration of the traction inverter into the vehicle from concept through to production. The engineer will drive design validation, supplier coordination, and technical leadership to meet quality, performance, and compliance standards.

Area of Responsibility

System Design & Development
  • Lead delivery of a Traction Inverter system , overseeing its integration into the vehicle .
  • Engage with AML EDU System and eMotor engineers and external suppliers to ensure timely production of EDU mechanical and electrical systems .
  • Support EDU Systems component validation , conducting regular design reviews with cross-functional teams .
  • Assist Test & Development teams with DVP planning & execution , ensuring supplier tests are completed on time .
  • Define and achieve programme weight targets , supporting CAD engineers in system optimization .
  • Support Virtual Verification activities , including packaging evaluations, 1D, and 3D analyses .
  • Ensure CAD designs incorporate Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Serviceability (DFS) principles .
  • Identify and contain potential quality concerns , applying engineering quality tools (FMEA, Robustness Studies) .
Supplier & Quality Management
  • Support delivery of the Inverter commodity strategy within the EDU Simultaneous Engineering Team (SET) .
  • Manage supplier interactions , ensuring requirement cascade, quality control, and logistics coordination .
  • Complete Change Tracking Documents (CTDs), Engineering Release Notices (ERNs), and system updates for AML approval.
  • Resolve engineering concerns using eCMS , implementing timely corrective actions .
  • Oversee Functional Safety, Cybersecurity, and EMC compliance for inverter systems.
Project Planning & Execution
  • Demonstrate expertise in electrothermal modeling, thermal management, and high-voltage electrical systems .
  • Apply contactor sizing, pyro-fuse functionality, and current sensor analysis skills for system reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 and battery pack system integration methodologies .
  • Maintain knowledge of busbar manufacturing processes, serviceability requirements, and mechanical system interactions .
Technical Leadership
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams , including design engineers, validation specialists, and manufacturing experts .
  • Engage in regular collaboration with AVL and AML simulation teams , ensuring accurate electrothermal modeling and system validation .
  • Actively coordinate supplier relationships , managing quality assurance and logistics .
  • Present technical information to the EDU SET , ensuring clear communication of inverter development progress.
