Canada Life UK is seeking a Lead Engineer to champion accessible, high-performing, user-focused front-end experiences within a modern, product-led IT estate. You will join a cross-functional leadership team and influence design, architecture, and delivery across cloud-enabled platforms.

The role emphasises hands-on coding, mentorship, and collaboration with designers, product owners, and other engineers to raise standards and deliver delightful user experiences.

Qualifications

• Front-end expert with component-oriented architectures and strong UX craft.
• Solid understanding of web accessibility and WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
• Focus on front-end performance and Core Web Vitals.
• Customer-centric approach with research, usability testing, and experimentation.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership.
• Proficiency in Microsoft/Azure stack and C# development.
• Advocate of SOLID and CLEAN code.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and production deployments.
• Experience in agile environments and rapid shipping of features.
• Security best practices in software delivery.

Responsibilities

• Part of Digital's technical leadership team, specialising in UI/UX, accessibility, and front-end performance; set direction and standards.
• Hands-on development from coding to releasing to production; collaborate with designers, product owners, and stakeholders.
• Deliver accessible, performant, and intuitive experiences that customers love and measure outcomes beyond output.
• Implement and refine DevOps practices to improve automation, reliability, and rapid delivery.
