Engineering Manager – Baggage

Salary: From £59,795 + £4,750 Flex Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus + Benefits

Role Overview

The primary purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System, which manages one of the three major flows within the airport—alongside aircraft and passenger flows. You will be responsible for ensuring high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure system.

This role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team, along with effective management of third-party vendors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of skilled Technicians to deliver maintenance plans.
  • Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability, achieving OBP / CSS metrics.
  • Promote a strong EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders such as ground handling teams, airlines, and handling agents to support operations.
  • Manage costs and contracts to stay within the operational budget.
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree in engineering preferred; HND with significant experience accepted.
  • Proven proactive leadership promoting health and safety culture, ensuring processes protect employees and contractors.
  • Experience managing and developing baggage systems teams to meet strategic priorities.
  • Ability to ensure system performance exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
  • Experience leading failure investigations to identify root causes impacting baggage systems and operations.
