Our Automation teams deliver projects in various industries including Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Energy/Renewables, Data Centres, and Utilities.
Our teams across Chesterfield, Fareham, and Warrington deliver solutions using a wide array of technology including Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, Ignition, and many more. These solutions include PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, Batch, Functional Safety, OT Cyber Security, and Industry 4.0.
As part of our continued growth in Automation, we are looking for a Lead Engineer to join our team in Fareham.

The Lead Engineer will:

  • Work co-operatively with the Project Manager and engineering team to ensure smooth project progress in accordance with the agreed project lifecycle.

Key Activities

  • Overall technical and engineering team leadership
  • Work closely with and support the Project Manager in all aspects of project technical delivery and scope management
  • Ensure project technical and quality requirements are met
  • Develop detailed task and procurement lists and lead their execution
  • Allocate tasks to the engineering team and monitor progress
  • Identify project opportunities and variations
  • Support the Project Manager in risk and issue management
  • Assist in developing project delivery strategies and planning
  • Standardize and modularize systems to enable reusable modules
  • Prototype new technologies
  • Plan and support training
  • Mentor Engineers
  • Support business development efforts through automation sales and proposals
  • Lead by example in Health and Safety practices

Functions

Lead Engineers are expected to:

  • Participate in sales-to-project handover processes
  • Assist in developing the project Quality plan
  • Assist in updating task & procurement lists
  • Peer review project documents
  • Serve as the main client interface and deputize for the Project Manager as needed
  • Conduct or oversee site surveys
  • Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and Design Development Specifications (DDS)
  • Create test specifications and methodologies
  • Conduct ongoing engineering reviews
  • Develop site work documentation and O & M documentation
  • Lead or manage system testing, CFAT, SAT, and installation
  • Manage observations, variations, and reworks

Experience & Qualifications

Essential experience includes:

  • Developing and delivering detailed design documentation
  • Hands-on experience with PLC and SCADA systems
  • Understanding of control panels, electrical installations, and instrumentation solutions
  • A Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or relevant discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards registration

Desirable experience includes:

  • PLC and SCADA systems with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA, or Ignition
  • MQTT & IoT Systems
  • Historians
  • Database management
  • Ethernet network design and configuration
  • IT hardware & software
  • Virtualization platforms like VMware & ESXi
  • OT Cyber Security
  • Functional Safety
