Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior engineering lead to own technical direction and delivery quality across one or two small teams in Leeds. You will work closely with product managers and senior business stakeholders, delivering production-grade software and hands-on solutions, while mentoring engineers in AI-native practices and GenAI tooling.

Qualifications

Production-grade software development experience with Python, C# .NET, or similar.
Strong systems thinking and engineering depth.
Experience with AI tooling fundamentals and GenAI platforms.

Job description

Own technical direction and delivery quality across one or two small teams
Work alongside product managers and senior business stakeholders
Build solutions as a hands-on individual contributor
Mentor engineers and develop their judgement on using AI tooling
Set standards for how technical problems are solved
Be accountable for shipped deliverables
Build and maintain integrations, MCP builds, API connections, and infrastructure supporting the GenAI platform
Build systems, tools, and solutions in an AI-native way
Represent engineering with senior stakeholders and translate between technical design and business needs
Make technical debt visible, clarify trade-offs, and keep delivery pace predictable
Contribute to engineering standards and improve the wider engineering function

Requirements

Production-grade software development experience, most likely in Python, C# .NET, or both (or similar)
Engineering depth and strong systems thinking
Knowledge of AI tooling fundamentals and how AI tooling works under the hood
Fluency in AI-native engineering, including building natively in platforms and using AI-enabled tools
Experience taking experiments through to production-grade operationalised solutions
End-to-end delivery ownership in a team-based model
Ability to surface problems early, present options, and keep stakeholders informed
Ability to work directly and credibly with senior non-technical stakeholders
Ability to translate technical constraints into business language without losing precision
Experience using GenAI tools such as Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT is desirable
Willingness to work in a matrix structure

Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in production-grade software development, particularly in Python and C# .NET, while effectively mentoring engineers and managing technical direction. Proficient in AI-native engineering and capable of translating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
