Contract: Permanent - Full-Time

Salary: Up to £52,000 per annum

Location: Leicester

Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a technically strong, forward-thinking Lead Engineer to join a healthcare-focused production site in Leicester. This is a hands-on leadership role within a true multi-skilled engineering team, supporting a Site Manager and alongside another Lead Engineer in overseeing a team of 12 engineers. The site has undergone significant investment over the past 18 months, with €6 million already spent and a further €1.6 million approved for new machinery, including tunnel washers, boilers, and a new stores area. This is a fast-paced, demanding environment where breakdowns impact production directly — ideal for someone from an FMCG background or similar, who thrives under pressure and promotes urgency.

This role will initially be a 4-on-4-off shift pattern - days only.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Engineering Manager in leading the engineering team and deputising when required
  • Drive continuous improvement in equipment performance and reliability
  • Deliver hands-on mentorship and technical guidance to engineers
  • Ensure compliance with QHSE policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
  • Coordinate maintenance, corrective actions, and unplanned repairs
  • Liaise with suppliers for parts and machinery sourcing
  • Maintain and monitor PPM schedules and escalate issues as needed
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in industrial maintenance or production environments
  • Multiskilled with strong fault-finding skills
  • Must have previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND / City & Guilds or time-served apprenticeship in engineering
  • Experience in continuous improvement and energy/sustainability initiatives
  • Strong technical base and ability to work independently with initiative
Desirable Attributes
  • FMCG background preferred due to urgency and breakdown demands
  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or other QHSE qualifications
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, evolving site with new machinery and infrastructure
  • Confident, proactive, and capable of hitting the ground running
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary up to £52,000
  • 29 days annual leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Career development and training opportunities
  • A collaborative team culture in a thriving healthcare manufacturing environment
