Lead Energy Technician

Position Type: Full-time, hourly position

Job Summary:

The Lead Energy Technician is responsible for helping homeowners become more energy efficient by performing Energize CT Energy Assessments. This role involves modeling homes in energy efficiency software, diagnosing energy usage problems, and recommending energy-saving measures such as insulation, windows, and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.

  1. Energy Assessment
    1. Conduct Energize CT home energy assessments.
    2. Utilize energy efficiency software to model homes and generate comprehensive energy savings reports.
    3. Test homes with diagnostic equipment such as Blower Doors, Duct Blasters, Trueflow, and perform combustion safety tests.
    4. Recommend energy-saving measures such as insulation, windows, and high-efficiency HVAC systems.
  2. Sales and Customer Service
    1. Confirm the customer’s interest in add-on measures.
    2. Provide exceptional customer service and educate homeowners on energy efficiency benefits.
    3. Use effective sales techniques to ensure customer satisfaction and generate referrals.
    4. Assist customers with paperwork processes.
  3. Installation and Documentation
    1. Install low-flow water fixtures and pipe wrap insulation where applicable.
    2. Manually seal leaky ductwork.
    3. Assist with blower door-guided air sealing when possible.
    4. Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and promptly.
  4. Professional Development and Collaboration
    1. Continuously improve product knowledge and sales skills through ongoing learning, including staying informed on the latest energy-saving options and technologies.
    2. Collaborate with internal divisions to cross-sell products and services.
    3. Mentor and supervise an assistant technician.
  5. Perform additional tasks as required.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Lead Tech certification (preferred but not required).
  • Residential construction or labor skills are a plus.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Outgoing, flexible, and personable demeanor.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role may include supervising an assistant technician.

Work Environment:

This position is based in customer settings, requiring work indoors and outdoors, including attics, basements, confined spaces, and rooftops.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand, bend, crawl, or kneel in confined spaces. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, enter crawl spaces, stand on roofs, and navigate stairs safely.
  • Travel in a personal or company vehicle is required.
