Job description

At Ilmor, we specialise in the design, simulation, development and manufacture of powertrain systems, electronics, and software for Motorsport, Automotive and Marine applications. With an international presence, we value ourselves on providing technologically advanced solutions. We are innovating at pace in the development of high efficiency, race, and production ready, ICE and EV solutions for both land and sea.

You would be working for a business which is highly invested in technology, at the forefront of engineering developments and in an environment which truly has a family feel and everyone knows your name.

We are now looking to recruit a full time, office based Lead Electrical Technician.

The role

As head of a small team, you will be working closely with the electronics and mechanical engineering departments in the design and prototype manufacture of wiring harnesses, ranging in size and complexity from small adapter pieces to full race car systems. In addition you will be responsible for assembly and test of many of the electronic devices designed and manufactured in-house. Your experience of the harsh racing car environment will allow you to proactively contribute to the robust design of all of Ilmor's racing electrical and electronic systems.

Other duties will include testing of suspect components, reporting to the design departments on the test results and making recommendations to improve system reliability.

You will also be actively involved in specifying, assembling, testing and operating a variety of test rigs including alternator, electronic actuator, small hybrid drive and fuel system component rigs. You will also assist in supporting the electrical installation side of the engine test facilities.

The role may include some travel to remote sites as part of the initial design and ongoing support of full vehicle electrical systems.

Essential
  • Fully conversant with DR25 system, motorsport wiring specifications and premier racing series wiring harness mechanical design.
  • Harness testing using a dedicated tester (Cirris etc).
  • Full system testing using target hardware (ECUs etc).
  • You must be selfmotivated. Work is often unsupervised and covers multiple responsibilities so there's a need to schedule, prioritise and pick up work as necessary.
  • Assembly and test of electronic systems of varying complexity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Some work will be remotely performed or will be dealing with remote locations during design phases so an ability to convey and capture requirements verbally is essential.
  • Familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
  • Excellent mentoring skills.
Desired
  • Electrical design of full racing harnesses using graphical tools and/or wiring CAD packages.
  • Ability to design and build simple prototype electronic circuits.
Benefits:
  • A very competitive salary which will reflect your career to date, as well as your skills and level of experience
  • Performance related bonus*
  • 35 days standard annual leave
  • Company-wide team activity events
  • Salary exchange pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme*
  • Electric vehicle scheme*
