Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a senior engineer to lead the integration of MGU components within the Formula 1 hybrid powertrain in a fast-paced startup environment backed by engineering excellence.

You will direct cross-functional teams across electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls, and manufacturing, driving prototyping, dyno testing, and data-driven iteration to deliver race-ready solutions that meet FIA regulations and high reliability targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related).
  • 8+ years in high-speed electric motors, motorsport ERS, or hybrid powertrains.
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional teams and powertrain development.
  • Experience with CAD/CAE tools and FIA F1 regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams to integrate and optimize MGU within hybrid powertrain.
  • Oversee prototype development, dyno testing, and data-driven iterations.
  • Drive design reviews, FMEA, and FIA compliance with power unit regs.
  • Foster innovation in materials, manufacturing, and DFM/DFMA.

  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams-electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls, and advanced manufacturing-to integrate and optimize the MGU within the hybrid powertrain, ensuring maximum power density, efficiency, and race reliability. Oversee prototype development, dynamometer testing programs, and data-driven iterations guiding engineering functions to achieve validated, race-ready solutions. Direct design reviews, FMEA processes, documentation, and compliance with FIA F1 regulations on MGU power, weight, RPM limits, and safety interfaces. Foster innovation by driving research into next-gen materials (e.g., advanced composites, magnetic alloys), manufacturing advances, and DFM/DFA principles to enable scalable, high-quality e-motor production.
