Job Description:

NRL’s engineering client is looking to recruit a Lead Electrical Engineer (Design) to join them on a permanent staff basis in Macclesfield. Hybrid working is available.

Role Overview:
  • The Lead Electrical Engineer will support the Term Framework Design Manager through provision of electrical engineering, design, and consultancy services.
  • This role operates in the highly regulated pharmaceutical sector and is diverse and challenging.
  • The position will start as part-time and develop over time, supporting electrical project activities.
  • The candidate will support the client in delivering clean energy solutions that are innovative, sustainable, compliant, and cost-effective.

Role detail description:
  • The Lead Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Term Framework Design Manager and supports departmental operations.
  • Responsibilities include assisting document control with audits, liaising with the E&I design team, coordinating resource loading, and prioritizing workload.
  • Regular meetings with the team (minimum fortnightly) are required.
  • Assist in producing/reviewing design deliverables schedules, reviewing drawings and documentation for client submission, and managing risk.
Additional responsibilities:
  • Undertake feasibility studies and tendering activities.
  • Support project delivery in terms of time, quality, and cost, meeting client KPIs.
  • Prepare or review contract documentation, including scope of work and professional service agreements.
  • Mentor and train team members, including graduates and trainees.
  • Support procedural and policy improvements.
  • Provide technical advice to the electrical design team.
  • Lead the team in providing innovative, sustainable, and value-engineered solutions.
  • Work closely with the portfolio lead to meet design deliverables.
Requirements:
  • Chartered/Incorporated Engineer or working towards Chartership.
  • Experience as Lead Electrical Engineer.
  • Building services and electrical & instrumentation design experience.
  • Degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Strong understanding of design processes, building regulations, BS7671, BS5839, and ATEX standards.
  • Knowledge of industrial HV and LV distribution systems is preferred.
  • Experience with digital engineering tools, quality assurance, and project lifecycle (RIBA).
