NRL’s engineering client is looking to recruit a Lead Electrical Engineer (Design) to join them on a permanent staff basis in Macclesfield - Hybrid working is available.
Role Overview:
- The Lead Electrical Engineer will support the Term Framework Design Manager by providing Electrical Engineering, Design, and Consultancy Services.
- This role operates in the highly regulated pharmaceutical sector and is challenging and diverse.
- The position will initially be part-time, developing over time alongside electrical project activities.

Role Detail:
- The Lead Electrical Engineer will report directly to the Term Framework Design Manager and support the department's effective operation.
- Responsibilities include:
- Assisting Document Control with interim audits of electrical design projects.
- Coordinating with the E&I design team on resource loading and workload prioritization.
- Holding regular team meetings (minimum fortnightly).
- Supporting the production and review of design deliverables schedules for project costing.
- Reviewing drawings and documentation for client submission.
- Identifying, communicating, and managing risks effectively.
- Undertaking feasibility studies (Class D Estimates) and tendering activities.
- Supporting project delivery to meet time, quality, and cost targets, either personally or through team leadership.
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving contract documentation, including Scope of Work and Professional Services Agreements for Design Subcontracts.
- Mentoring and training team members, including graduates and trainees.
- Supporting procedural and policy improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Providing technical advice to the Electrical Design Team.
- Leading the team in delivering innovative, sustainable, and value-engineered solutions.
- Working closely with the portfolio lead to achieve design deliverables aligned with project stage gates.
What you will need:
- Chartered/Incorporated Engineer or working towards Chartership.
- Previous experience as Lead Electrical Engineer.
- Building services and electrical & instrumentation design experience.
- Degree in electrical engineering or related subject (preferable).
- Strong understanding of the design process and documentation.
- Significant experience with Building Regulations compliance and Principal Designer duties.
- Extensive knowledge of BS7671.
- Knowledge of fire system design per BS5839.
- Hazardous Area (ATEX) design experience per BS EN 60079-14 with Compex qualifications.
Preferred experience:
- Application of electrical design standards.
- Project lifecycle experience (e.g., RIBA).
- Knowledge of industrial HV and LV distribution systems, especially LV.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and experience in 'Designer' and 'Principal Designer' roles.
- Experience with digital engineering tools and technologies.
- Knowledge of quality assurance, data, and administrative management practices.
