Job summary

A leading engineering company is seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer in the UK/Ireland. The role involves delivering electrical designs for critical infrastructure projects, mainly focused on substations and high voltage systems. Candidates must have extensive experience in electrical design, particularly within the National Grid framework, along with a robust academic background in Electrical Engineering. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office and site-based work.

Qualifications

• 10 years electrical design experience with 2-3 years on National Grid – 400KV / High Voltage.
• Strong understanding of contractors and the construction environment.
• Experience on electricity infrastructure projects including HV substations and cable systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Electrical Designs for substations, protection & control systems.
• Frequent client interaction and site visits in key locations.
• Collaborate with Program Lead, Project Managers, and Civil Engineers.

Lead Electrical Design Engineer

I am recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer in the UK / Ireland working with key project in delivering Electrical Designs for substations, protection & control systems and overhead lines cable systems.

Role Responsibilities

Client facing / regular site visits (key sites but not limited to Glasgow / Bristol & SW / London & Uxbridge). Office visits and or site visits on hybrid basis min 2 days per week. Working with key project personnel in delivering Electrical Designs for substations (primary) / protection & control systems (secondary) / overhead lines (OHL) / cable systems

The Person and Experience

• MEng, BEng or equivalent accredited degree in Electrical Engineering

• 10 years electrical design experience with minimum 2-3 years on National Grid – 400KV / High Voltage.

• CDAE and LCDAE optional but is a good indicator of years of experience.

• TP141 registered would also be considered.

• Needs a strong understanding of tier 1 & 2 contractors and construction with design & build, how they operate and the environment.

• Experience working directly for contractors on National Grid projects would be considered.

• Experience of National Grid system design on Energy/Infrastructure projects in Electricity Transmission and Distribution, including HV substations / cables systems / overhead line and protection & control

• Partnering with Program Lead, Project Managers, Civil Engineers to deliver key design work for build projects in energy transition.
