Job summary

D R Newitt Recruitment is seeking an experienced Electrical & Controls Engineer for a manufacturing operation in Milton Keynes. The role focuses on owning site electrical standards, leading PLC programming and automation improvements to minimise downtime.

Ideal candidates will have strong fault-finding skills, experience with AC drives/servo controls, and a track record delivering engineering projects. Apprenticeship plus HNC/degree are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical and controls engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong PLC programming, HMI and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of AC drives, servo controls and electrical installation standards.
• Experience delivering engineering projects and automation improvements.
• A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership and develop others.
• A time-served apprenticeship is desirable, alongside an HNC, degree or equivalent qualification.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for site electrical standards, safety and regulatory compliance.
• Lead PLC programming, HMI development and controls system improvements.
• Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation faults to minimise downtime.
• Plan and deliver engineering projects from concept through to completion.
• Coach and mentor engineers, developing electrical and controls fault-finding skills across the team.
• Maintain technical documentation, electrical drawings and PLC backups.
• Drive continuous improvement and help standardise engineering practices.
