About The Game

Hopetown is a new narrative-first RPG inspired by Disco Elysium, being built by some of the team that worked on Disco Elysium, including Martin Luiga (founder of the ZA/UM Cultural Movement, writer of several characters on Disco Elysium, and author of the first short story in the Disco Elysium universe), Lenval Brown (narrator of Disco Elysium), and Piotr Sobolewski (former CEO of Knights of Unity, responsible for the tech development of Disco Elysium).

We are currently moving into early production, focusing on building foundational systems, characters, and mechanics that will shape the experience. With your help, we aim to transform Hopetown into an unforgettable, living universe of stories, surprises, and challenges.

About Us

Longdue is a studio dedicated to creating rich, emotional, story-first games that challenge players' expectations. Our remote team of writers, artists, designers, and engineers brings diverse talent to push the boundaries of narrative-driven RPGs. As we're still early in production, new team members will have a tangible impact on the world we're building. We value creativity, openness, and care over convention, believing that extraordinary games can come from small, focused teams.

About The Role

We are seeking a Lead Editor to join us as we move into production on Hopetown. You will oversee editing and refining all narrative text, develop our editorial standards, and lead our team of writers with mentorship, energy, and vision. Your role is crucial in maintaining the narrative quality, championing the game's voice, and ensuring an engaging player experience.

You will collaborate closely with the CEO, Art, Production, and Tech teams to seamlessly integrate narrative into the development process and foster a creative, collaborative culture within the writing team.

Responsibilities
  • Edit and polish all in-game text, including dialogue, lore, quest content, item descriptions, and UI copy.
  • Maintain and evolve the game's voice, tone, and editorial standards through documentation and style guides.
  • Mentor, give feedback, and support writers to develop their craft and confidence.
  • Build morale, foster a positive creative environment, and motivate the narrative team.
  • Represent the writing team in cross-functional discussions with leadership and other departments.
  • Support scaling of narrative pipelines as we transition from early to full production.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance storytelling, world-building, and emotional engagement.
Requirements
Minimum:
  • Significant experience in writing narratives for major projects (book, film, or game) recognized widely.
  • 3+ years editing narrative content for games, novels, film, or television.
  • 2+ years mentoring or leading creative or editorial teams (formal management not required but leadership essential).
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to provide constructive, motivating feedback.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Art, Production, and Tech teams.
  • Highly organized and proactive in managing workflows, deadlines, and narrative pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of how writing impacts player experience, especially in narrative-driven games.
Preferred:
  • Experience writing or editing at least 100k words for a book, film, or video game.
  • At least 1 year writing branching narrative dialogues for cRPGs.
  • At least 1 year editing branching narrative dialogues for cRPGs.
  • Leading a team of at least 3 full-time writers for at least 1 year.
  • Experience scaling or building narrative teams during production.
  • Familiarity with localization workflows and best practices.
  • Passion for psychological, surreal, or experimental storytelling.
Benefits

Equity & Ownership: As an early team member at Longdue, you may be eligible for equity through our future stock option scheme.

Remote & Flexible Work: We are a fully remote studio with flexible hours, valuing autonomy and trust. Whether part-time or full-time, we accommodate your schedule.

Our Values

We are a story-first studio driven by curiosity, creativity, and care. We believe in the power of games to move people and that small teams can achieve extraordinary work. We encourage collaboration, learning, and thoughtful critique, fostering a culture of trust, vulnerability, and experimentation. Our goal is to create lasting, meaningful experiences rather than follow trends.
