Overview

Lead Ecologist - Utilities

Home counties Hybrid (1 day in South West London office). Up to £58k DOE

Responsibilities
  • Join the Capital Delivery team and integrate ecological best practices throughout the project lifecycle, from preliminary design to final completion.
  • Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks with a strong focus on sustainability and biodiversity net gain.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, review contractor submissions including ecology surveys and biodiversity assessments, and act as the main point of contact for ecological matters across projects.
  • Shape proactive approaches to ecological walkovers, protected species management, and compliance with legislation.
  • Support strong relationships with regulators, stakeholders, and environmental partners.
Qualifications
  • Solid academic background in ecology or a related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of protected species and ecological regulations, with hands-on experience using the Biodiversity Metric.
  • Confidence engaging with internal and external stakeholders. Membership of CIEEM is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the utilities or infrastructure sector would be a strong advantage.
