Job summary

Assystem in Warrington is seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to head a multi-disciplinary team delivering nuclear-related projects in a regulated environment.

You will ensure the delivery of scope with emphasis on safety, quality, and compliance, while coordinating with stakeholders and other discipline leads to meet program milestones.

Qualifications

• Background in engineering with successful delivery including leadership roles.
• Experience in engineering design in a regulated, quality-assured environment (preferably nuclear).
• Knowledge of governing laws, regulations, and standards for highly regulated industries (HSE, CDM 2015, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering team to identify feasibility and develop outline requirements.
• Identify TRL levels and development plans to deliver viable solutions.
• Prepare delivery plans for appraisal and select phases with time, cost and quality in mind.
• Lead estimation, scheduling, forecasting and production of design deliverables.
• Manage DSA teams in delivering outputs and substantiation documentation.
• Develop safety cases and attend HAZOPs, supporting safety assessment and ES reviews.
• Identify additional resource demand to meet the project schedule.
• Interface with other Project Discipline leads and engage with site clients and stakeholders.

Job Description

Location: Warrington

Type: Permanent / Contract

Role Responsibilities

Lead and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering team to:

• Identify the feasibility of the approach
• Develop an outline requirement specification
• Identify the TRL levels and associated development plans to deliver a viable solution
• Prepare a plan for the delivery of the appraise and select phase of the project. Deliver to the agreed time, cost and quality
• Lead the multidiscipline teams, responsible for estimating, scheduling, forecasting and the production of the agreed design deliverables
• Manage the DSA teams in production of deliverables
• Develop the safety case(s), including attendance at HAZOPs, support to safety assessment, review of ES, and production of substantiation documentation
• Identify additional resource demand where required to ensure all deliverables can be originated and checked in accordance with the project schedule
• Interface with other Project Discipline leads within the project(s)
• Interface and engage with Site clients and stakeholders

Essential Experience

• Background in engineering, demonstrating a record of successful delivery including recent leadership roles guiding technical personnel
• Significant experience in an engineering design environment with strong technical knowledge
• Recent experience working within a regulated and quality-assured system (preferably nuclear), where professional engineering judgment is key
• Knowledge and understanding of governing laws, regulations, and standards for the nuclear industry (equivalent experience in other industries will be considered):
  • Health & Safety at Work Act
  • The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  • Safety of Machinery, CDM, LOLER, Pressure Systems, DSEAR, Ionising Radiation
• Identification of Technological Readiness Levels and development of technology development plans

Qualifications

• Higher Education Qualification in Engineering (or Equivalent) subject
• Appropriate (Engineering or Scientific) Institution Membership.

Additional Information

• Ability to obtain SC Clearance
• Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
