Our team of experts is dedicated to creating smart, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions that improve the daily lives of millions of passengers. We are looking for passionate professionals who are eager to innovate and push the boundaries of what's possible.

Siemens Mobility is a global market leader in rail infrastructure, shaping the future of transportation through cutting‑edge technology, digital innovation, and sustainable engineering. As part of our Rail Infrastructure business, you’ll join a team that is transforming how people and goods move, making rail travel safer, smarter, greener, and more efficient.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Siemens Mobility as a Lead Design Manager to join our new Chippenham facility. In this role, you’ll oversee the regional signalling design function and play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects.

Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, you will provide visible leadership to the design engineering teams in Chippenham and Newport, with overall accountability for their delivery, capability and performance. You will set the direction for the function, influence business decisions, establish clear priorities and align resources to the regional workload, creating an environment in which people can develop, collaborate and perform at their best.

You’ll make a difference by

  • Leading the regional design engineering portfolio, setting priorities and allocating work packages and resources across multiple projects to meet safety, time, quality and cost commitments

  • Providing clear, visible leadership to Design Managers and the wider design community, establishing accountability, removing barriers and supporting effective decision-making. This requires a flexible approach and a willingness to travel regularly to maintain a visible presence with our design and project teams

  • Owning regional resource and capability planning, maintaining forward-looking workload and capacity plans, identifying risks and agreeing action to address resource surpluses, shortfalls and critical skills needs

  • Building and developing a high-performing team through regular performance and development conversations, coaching, mentoring, succession planning and timely management of performance issues.

  • Championing engineering safety and technical assurance, ensuring risks are identified and managed throughout the design lifecycle and that company procedures, engineering standards and governance are applied consistently

  • Partnering with project and engineering leaders to provide strategic input, resolve delivery challenges and align design priorities with regional and business objectives

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Experience of project engineering, systems engineering and the design, test or installation of safety-critical or safety-related real-time systems

  • Established professional credibility and substantial experience of engineering delivery across complex UK signalling schemes

  • Broad engineering knowledge across the full lifecycle, with the judgement to lead cross-disciplinary activity in complex, innovative and commercially challenging environments

  • A strong track record of leading people, setting direction, building capability and creating a culture of accountability, inclusion and high performance

  • Significant leadership experience within signalling or a comparable safety-critical engineering environment, including responsibility for large or multidisciplinary teams
