About the role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Visualisation Developer to join our Global Digital team. In this role, you will be working alongside the Power BI Architect in designing, maintaining, and governing our Power BI platform. You will ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and capable of meeting the diverse data needs of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong strategic domain knowledge in data visualisation and deep technical expertise in the Power BI platform.

As a key member of our Visualisation Centre of Excellence, you will work alongside our Head of Visualisation to convert a roadmap of opportunities and user stores into actionable and valuable visualisation products. As a member of the wider Global Digital team, you will collaborate with curious, self-driven colleagues across the organization. This role offers the opportunity to innovate and implement the latest technologies and best practices in data visualization, contributing to the overall success of the business.

About You

You are a seasoned and technically proficient data professional with a passion for turning complex data into compelling stories. You possess expert knowledge in data visualization and a strong foundation in data analytics and data modelling. You have deep subject matter expertise in Microsoft Power BI and Fabric. You adopt a client-first approach, deeply understanding user requirements and architecting scalable and secure solutions. You excel at transforming complex datasets into intuitive data models that empower actionable insights. You are passionate about designing and implementing enterprise-scale data visualization ecosystems that enable organizations to make data-driven decisions. Your strong technical skills are complemented by excellent communication, storytelling, and design abilities, enabling you to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Subject Matter Expert

· Serve as one of the primary subject matter experts on data visualisation and design, and the use of Power BI in an enterprise setting.

Data Visualisation and Design

· Lead data visualisation standards and best practices within the Visualisation Centre of Excellence and across the organisation.

· Craft clear and engaging data stories that highlight key insights and drive decision-making by using data storytelling techniques to present complex data in an accessible and understandable manner for non-technical audiences.

· Defining best practices developing and designing Power BI reports

· Collaborate closely with stakeholders to clearly understand their business needs, challenges, and objectives, and translate these requirements into technical solutions that align with organizational goals and drive value.

Data Modelling, Architecture, and Governance

· Establish and uphold data modelling best practice and develop robust semantic models using Snowflake and Power BI.

· Implement monitoring and continuous optimisation of data models for performance and scalability.

· Support the design, governance and development of the Power BI platform infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.

· Continuously monitor and enhance the platform’s performance, security, and resilience, and optimising semantic models and reports.

· Implement governance policies and frameworks to maintain data quality and ensure compliance with data security best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Data Platform Integration

· Experience integrating Power BI with other data sources and platforms (e.g., Azure, Snowflake, SharePoint, SAP, Salesforce)

· Experience with REST APIs for data extraction and integration with Power BI is desirable.

Innovation

· Stay informed about the latest Power BI features and industry trends to foster innovation within the platform.

· Keep abreast of the wider landscape of data visualization, data, and digital technologies.

About you

Education

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred

Experience

· Extensive experience designing and implementing data visualisation solutions, with a focus on the Power BI platform.

· Proven track record of delivering Power BI semantic model and reporting solutions for diverse use cases.

· Hands-on, proven experience in managing, administrating, and troubleshooting Power BI platforms, ensuring performance and security.

· Experience working with cloud data warehouse solutions such as Snowflake, BigQuery, databricks, Redshift.

· Experience with version control systems like Git for managing Power BI products.

· Experience with the DevOps lifecycle.

· Experience mentoring visualisation developers.

· Knowledge of (re)insurance industry is an advantage.

Technical Skills

· Expert knowledge of Power BI including best practices and related tools (ALM Toolkit, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Measure Killer)

· Proficiency in other data visualisation tools beyond Power BI (e.g., Tableau, Looker, ThoughtSpot), as well as data visualisation libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, ggplot2, D3.js, Kepler.gl, Apache Superset, Streamlit).

· Expertise in data storytelling techniques and the ability to translate data into actionable insights through compelling narratives.

· Strong understanding of design principles and experience with design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma).

· Expertise in semantic model optimisation and Power BI capacity management.

· Strong understanding of dimensional data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing.

· Skilled in SQL, Data Analysis Expression (DAX), Power Query M code.

· Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure, for deploying and managing Power BI solutions.

· Good knowledge of wider Power Platform (Apps, Automate).

· Holding an active Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect Certification (PL-600) is desirable.

· Experience with geospatial analytics and visualisation is a plus.

Soft Skills

· Excellent communication and leadership skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

· Experience mentoring visualisation developers.

· Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
